The Road Relics of Central Texas

Welcome to the Road Relics website. We are the Central Texas Region of the Antique Automobile Club of American (AACA). Or in other words, we are a bunch of guys and gals that enjoy the restoration and maintenance of automobile history.  Information about the AACA national club can be found by clicking on the above image.  There is also an extensive library of antique automobile information at the AACA Library and Research Center.  A great resource for those of us looking for answers about our cars if someone in the club does not already have an answer for you.  You are welcome to come for a visit.

Latest Road Relics Club News

Our May meeting focused on the up coming Texas Tour in Waco. All the pieces are coming together and it appears to be a well attended gathering based on the current registrations.

In the May meeting Susan also gave us a delightful presentation about her 1930 Buick that has been in her family for 6 generations.

Our April was well attended as we get ready for our annual trek up to the Texas Motor Speedway later this month to help support the Pate Swap meet.  Over 8,000 vendors selling car parts, car decor, not to mention cars. Need a part? This swap meet is a great place to look.  DJ shared a presentation on the Pate Swap meeting and shared some of his finds at Pate over the years. Our club will be supporting the event by hauling parts around for the patrons.

Our March meeting included an interesting presentation by Leif telling us how he was able to identify cars in an old photo using a variety of techniques which included, information from intelligent club members, a 3-inch thick encyclopedia, artificial intelligence, and Google. With a high degree of certainty, the cars were identified.  Great work Leif.

Our February meeting was well attended. We welcomed new members and caught up on the latest club business.  The club is getting prepared for the May Texas Tour in Waco.  Joe shared a video John had from a previous Texas Tour.  We also enjoyed complimentary peach and berry cobbler from Catfish Parlor.

At our January 2026 meeting we were back at the Catfish Parlor. Joe shared the 2026 list of club officers and again shared some interesting old photos which lead to a brief discussion of the Austin Moon Towers. Rich shared plans for a club build a Trophy Day later this month and John shared a touching video of an old Chevy commercial.

We had a wonderful Christmas Party at Milano’s Restaurant in December instead of a meeting at the Catfish Parlor. Good food, live musical entertainment and the passing out of club awards.

At our November 2025 meeting we voted in the new club officers and welcomed several new guests to our meeting. The presentation for the evening had some technical challenges and we decided to push the presentation for our next meeting.  This allowed a lot of us to catch up with one on one conversations.

We won’t have a club meeting on the 2nd Tuesday in December. Instead, we are having a Christmas party dinner on December 7th.  More detail on that on our event page.

At our October 2025 club meeting Lizette shared information about our 2025 Christmas Party, Joe shared nominations for our 2026 club officers, and new members were recognized. Gary is offered folks to stop by his shop after the Heros and Hot Rods car show on November 8th.

Wendel shared stories and photos about his river cruise in Germany. It was called Castles and Cathedrals and took place along the Rhine River. The trip included a visit to the Technology Museum  Speyer. The museum presented technologies from underwater to space. Planes, motorcycles, submarines, space shuttle and more. Thanks Wendel.

At the September meeting Rich shared some car articles written in the 1930’s giving automotive ideas for improvement.  One example was the use of a metal wedge in place of a nut and bolt on a battery terminal. An interesting idea, but clearly never found its way to replacing the nut and bolt solution.  Still it was interesting to see other 1930 ideas being written to improve the automobile.

Our August meeting included a presentation by Leif called “Model A Fords in the Movies”.  You would be surprised the number of movies that used Model A’s. Ahhh but then again you probably would not be surprised.

Leif tested everyone’s guessing power to name that movie.  Winners even got a Road Relic sticker.      Thanks Leif

At our May meeting Joe shared some interesting inventions he found on the web like an electric bath tub from 1910. We also heard about the Pate Swap meet and the up coming events in the near future.

Now I don’t know about you, but electricity and water in a bath tub are not two items I would like to put together.

DJ shared with us photos from the Pate Swap meet and stories about the excitement around the swap meet.  Thanks DJ

If you enjoy cars, restoring cars, driving cars, or just talking about cars, this is a fun club to join.

The members have a wealth of experience and always willing to share.

Come join one of our monthly club meetings every 2nd Tuesday of the month at 7pm in the Catfish Parlour South, 4705 E Ben White Blvd, Austin, TX 78744  At the meetings we talk about club business stuff and have a presentation but a club member. The members have a wide variety of cars, some running and some under construction. We also share ideas, problems,  solutions and plan events.

We  try to get our cars out once a month because these cars want to be driven.

Check out our calendar to see what is happening and join our events and have some fun.
