Rumor has it that Santa and his reindeer have been circling the summer skies of Austin looking for a destination for the Road Relics annual meeting and Christmas party. They have found the perfect place with plenty of free parking and a valet to assist those who need a little extra help. How nice is that!

Get out your big Magic Marker and put Sunday, December 6 on your calendar for a fun afternoon starting at 1 PM with expected completion time around 4 PM which allows all of us to get home before dark.

That extraordinary destination is Chez Zee, 5406 Balcones Drive, an Austin institution for over 35 years, that has been the site of weddings, anniversaries, engagements and date nights. Now it’s our special afternoon rain or shine; there is a cozy indoor space designated just for us with a warm and whimsical décor featuring rotating art exhibits looking out upon an adjacent cozy covered patio.

Food? Yes, food! You won’t be disappointed! We are featuring a platinum buffet of farm-to-table comfort food and a selection of decadent desserts. Christmas music, compliments of Bluetooth, will play soothingly during the afternoon and the decorations will bring sparkles and glitter to your eyes.           

And then there is the White Elephant gift exchange! The goal is to make people laugh or trade playfully for a funny, impractical, or quirky present that each of us brings. Rules will be published next month but it’s not too early for you to start looking around for a gag gift, tacky item or useful oddity. Stay tuned!

The best news of all is that this event is FREE to Road Relics members and each membership is entitled to 2 attendees. We will start taking reservations when advertised in the October Road Relics newsletter and will cap the reservations at 55. We look forward to seeing everyone for a really jovial afternoon.

One more thing:  Santa wants everyone in their best holiday attire. Nothing is too silly or ridiculous. Come as Mrs. Claus or Rudolph or Santa himself and have a grand ole time!!
